KUCHING: The Sarawak First Division Tailors’ Association represented Sarawak at the 29th Congress of the Federation of Asian Master Tailors in Bali, Indonesia, bringing home four awards for the state.
The congress, organised by the Federation of Tailors’ Guilds Malaysia as part of a 29-member Malaysian delegation, brought together tailoring professionals from across Asia to exchange knowledge and promote craftsmanship and traditional skills, the association said in a statement.
Ling Ee Ching of the Sarawak First Division Tailors’ Association won Gold in the Ladies’ Static Casual Wear and Ladies’ Static Evening Wear categories, and Silver in Ladies’ Static Creative Wear and the FAMT Costume and Culture Achievement Awards.
Veteran tailor Hoo Peng Kuai received the FAMT Lifetime Contribution Award for Costume Culture, recognising decades of work preserving and passing down tailoring skills, according to the statement.
Besides competing, the delegation took part in an international fashion showcase highlighting Malaysia’s tailoring industry through design, craftsmanship and creativity.
The association said its participation was not only about competing but also about learning and professional exchange, adding that the trip broadened members’ international outlook and opened opportunities for Sarawak’s tailoring industry.
