BAU: Sarawak youth from diverse religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds reflect the unique harmony and core strength of the state.

Federal Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Mordi Bimol said the youth plays an important role in strengthening unity and harmony in the state in line with Sarawak’s identity.

“Sarawak youths are a very valuable asset to the country and must be given due attention so that they can be included in the country’s development process in a holistic manner.

“They also reflect the unique harmony of this state, and this is a strength that must continue to be preserved, synonymous with Sarawak as a state of unity,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the National Youth Day Festival 2026 Sarawak State Level at REDEEMS Centre Singai, here on Saturday.

Mordi said the social gap between youth and the community should also be narrowed through the implementation of community programmes, volunteering initiatives and community development activities.

He added that this approach is important to provide opportunities for young people to remain active and progress in various fields.

Meanwhile, he said the government continues to place serious focus on youth development through various initiatives, including the construction and upgrading of youth and sports infrastructure in Sarawak.

“The government is also strengthening training and skills enhancement through collaboration with various educational institutions and technical and vocational training (TVET) bodies.

“Among them are the Department of Skills Development Malaysia, CENTEXS, i-CATS University College, polytechnics, industrial training institutes, community colleges and the National Youth Skills Institute,” he said.

He added that the government also provides grants and entrepreneurship funds to help young people build their own businesses, as well as strengthening leadership and character development programmes.

Commenting on the event, he said National Youth Day is held annually as a recognition by the government of the contributions of youth to national development.

“This year’s theme, ‘Empowering MADANI Youth’, emphasises that youth are no longer a group that waits for instructions, but are drivers of change in national development.

“Today’s youth play an active role in the digital economy, entrepreneurship, community leadership, social innovation, environmental sustainability and technology.

“However, they also face challenges such as the cost of living, employment opportunities, mental health issues and the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), which must be addressed collectively,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the UP_TVET Zon Sarawak 2026 roadshow was also held in conjunction with the festival as part of the programme, focusing on job creation opportunities and exposure to career pathways.
