LUNDU: Sarawak stands out as a model for other states, most notably in the unity shared by its multiracial population.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said that the Mid-Autumn Festival, for instance, is not merely a cultural celebration of the Chinese community but also serves as a platform for unity among all Sarawakians.

“This festival symbolises the spirit of unity in Sarawakian society, whether Malay, Chinese, or from other ethnic groups, where we all sit together, eat together, and celebrate together. This is the identity of Sarawak that we take pride in,” he added.

Dr Sim said this when speaking at the opening of the Lundu District Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 here on Wednesday.

He also expressed his appreciation for the participation of 38 associations and organisations in the festival, which he said was clear proof of the strength of unity in the Land of the Hornbills.

Apart from unity, he also touched on Sarawak’s wealth and rapid progress, which has now attracted the attention of other states in Malaysia.

According to him, Sarawak’s growing economic achievements are the result of sustainable State development policies as well as the collective effort of the people.

“Today, many place their hopes on Sarawak. In the past, some looked down on us, but now we have become an example. We must continue to stay united, work hard, and ensure that this success is inherited by future generations,” Dr Sim stressed.

“Sarawak now stands tall not only because of physical development, but also because we are rich in the spirit of togetherness.”

At the same time, he also explained that Sarawak is now respected by other states in Malaysia because of its success in building an inclusive and balanced society.

“Why is Sarawak respected? Because we have succeeded in building this State the right way, prioritising tolerance, harmony, and development for all its people. This is the true wealth of Sarawak, which serves as an example to other states,” he added.

The festival, held at the Lundu open grounds, was enlivened with various cultural activities, including traditional dance performances, lantern showcases, cultural exhibitions, and stalls from different communities.
