KUCHING: The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) welcomed a delegation from Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (MBDC) in a visit aimed at exploring potential collaboration in advancing the bioeconomy sector.

The delegation was led by Ahmad Najmie Abdul Aziz, Assistant Manager of the Business Development Industry Support Division, accompanied by Abdul Hakim Mohd Razduan, Executive of Entrepreneurship Development, and Zarina Zainudin from Business Development under the same division.

MBDC plays a key role in advancing Malaysia’s bioeconomy through several strategic initiatives, including the BioNexus Status programme, which provides qualifying companies with facilitation support, incentives and a conducive ecosystem to develop bio-based innovations.

Its BioNexus Partners (BNP) Laboratories programme offers access to a nationwide network of facilities, providing technical expertise, accredited laboratory services and support for research and development collaborations.

In addition, the Bio-based Accelerator programme assists companies in addressing gaps in skills, technology adoption, financing, regulatory compliance and market readiness.

The visit which took place on Wednesday (Apr 8) provided a platform for SBC and MBDC to explore areas of collaboration, particularly in strengthening industry linkages and supporting the growth of bio-based companies within Sarawak’s bioindustrial ecosystem.

Also present were representatives from BioVerde Technologies, including Bioeconomy Projects Manager Syafiq Ismail, Head of Scientific Commercialisation Edmund Lau Chai Ming, and Mohd Izuddin Nuzul.
