KUCHING: The airwaves and digital space came alive with the voices of nearly 2,000 scouts from across Sarawak today as they took part in the Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) 2025.

The one-day event, an annual global scouting event that bridges tradition and technology through the spirit of friendship and communication brought together participants from Kuching, Betong, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, and Lambir, who converged virtually via radio frequencies and online platforms.

The programme organised by the Scouts Association of Malaysia, Sarawak Branch, officially began at 9am with an opening ceremony at the Sarawak Scout Headquarters, here.

Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak, John Lim Boon Beng, officiated the ceremony on behalf of Tan Sri Datuk Seri William Mawan Ikom, President of the Sarawak Scout Council.

“Today marks a special occasion where technology meets tradition, and where the spirit of scouting transcends borders, languages and time zones.

“JOTA and JOTI are global celebrations of unity, learning, and friendship,” said Lim.

Throughout the day, scouts from Sarawak participated in a series of interactive and skill-building activities, including live radio exchanges, Morse Code challenges, Fox Hunting, Mini Radio Amateur Exercises (RAE), and online cultural sharing sessions.

“Handling ham radio teaches discipline, patience, and precision.

“It connects you to a legacy of scouts who have used radio to serve communities during emergencies and to build bridges of friendship across the world,” Lim said.

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates and badges to scouts who completed all station activities successfully.
