BAU: Scouts should play a proactive role in safeguarding school environments by acting as the “eyes and ears” of schools and reporting potential safety hazards, says Bau District Education Officer Edward Ngelai.
He said Scouts, who are trained to become disciplined and well-rounded individuals, should serve as role models and immediately alert teachers or school authorities if they detect anything that could endanger students’ safety.
“The recent electrical shock incident in Daro, which claimed the life of a student, should serve as an important lesson to all parties,” he said when officiating at the Patrol Leaders and Sixers Course closing ceremony held at SK Suba Buan, here today (May 10).
Meanwhile, Bau District Scout Commissioner Nelyson Kinot encouraged participants to equip themselves with scouting knowledge and skills to better guide their members in obtaining proficiency and competency badges.
Representing Sarawak Chief Scout Commissioner John Lim, Scouts Association of Malaysia Sarawak Branch executive secretary Zasran Abdullah urged Patrol Leaders and Sixers to use their positions as platforms to develop leadership qualities, discipline and self-confidence in becoming quality leaders of the future.
