MIRI: The search continues for two local fishermen who went missing after their fishing vessel capsized in the waters off Tanjung Payung, Niah, on Wednesday.
Miri Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that as of yesterday (Nov 7) both victims, the skipper and a crew member aged between 33 and 65 have yet to be found.
“The incident was reported to Samalaju police station at 8.46 pm on Nov 5.
“Four foreign crew members, aged between 20 and 47, were rescued safely by a passing tugboat that happened to be in the area at the time,” he said in a statement.
Following the report, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was immediately launched, involving the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Civil Defence Force (APM).
On the second day of the operation, a total of 90 personnel and three boats from various agencies were deployed to continue the search.

Mohd Farhan also advised the public not to speculate on the incident and reminded fishermen to stay alert and take precautions amid unpredictable weather conditions.
