BINTULU: The Sebauh bridge across Batang Kemena is now open for public use, just in time for the Christmas season — nearly two months ahead of schedule.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced the early opening during the Pre-Launch ceremony today (Dec 6) describing the project as a meaningful gift to the people of Sebauh and its surrounding areas.

“Following the pre-launch we held today, the bridge can now be used by the rakyat. Today, we fulfilled our promise that this road can be used before the Christmas celebration.

“I am very satisfied because this project has been completed almost two months ahead of schedule — an impressive achievement,” he said during a press conference.

Spanning 728.56 metres in length and 12 metres in width, the bridge is set to become a critical link that strengthens land connectivity between Sebauh and nearby communities.

It replaces the existing ferry service, significantly cutting travel time for daily commuters heading to Sebauh town, upstream settlements, and other nearby destinations.

Uggah underscored that the project represents more than a new structure.

He said it is a high-impact development that will boost economic growth, enhance social wellbeing, and create safer and more efficient travel for local residents.

The Sebauh Bridge forms part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing effort to modernise rural infrastructure and ensure that essential facilities such as roads and bridges are accessible to all, regardless of location.
