DALAT: The ‘Sejambak Kasih’ Programme will continue indefinitely to help the underprivileged celebrate the upcoming festival.

Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the purpose is to ensure that the ministry always remember the underprivileged during the festival.

“This donation is also to ease the financial burden of the recipients in preparation for the upcoming festival, which is Christmas Day.

“In addition, it will cheer up family members and recipients of aid while also increasing the amount of necessary items available,” she said.

She said this when speaking at the ‘Sejambak Kasih’ Christmas Programme, at the Dalat Welfare Complex, here, today.

In this regard, Fatimah, who is also the Dalat assemblywoman, presented donations to 100 recipients at the ceremony.

The recipients have received donations in the form of cash totalling RM100 and hampers worth almost RM80.

Meanwhile, Fatimah said that such ceremonies should continue indefinitely because they create a united community.

She explained that despite being made up of various races and religions, the community in Sarawak can unite through festivals.

Meanwhile, Mukah Division Social Welfare Officer Dariel Thiong Yiew Seng said that this year alone, his department has implemented such events five times in this  division.

He said that these involve the Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Gawai and Christmas celebrations.

However he added that in Mukah, there was no Deepavali ‘Sejambak Kasih’ Programme because there were no recipients celebrating the festival.
