SADONG JAYA: The Semarak Sarawak Day 2026 programme has strengthened community unity while fostering greater appreciation of Sarawak’s history and its struggle to safeguard the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee said the programme, held at a longhouse in Kampung Sungai Buluh here, demonstrated the Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (UKAS) commitment to engaging directly with the people by bringing government information and development initiatives to the grassroots.
“Sarawak Day reminds us of the state’s long journey, the sacrifices of our past leaders, and our responsibility to continue developing Sarawak for a more prosperous and harmonious future,” she said when officiating at the closing ceremony of the programme yesterday (July 18).
Rodiyah said Sadong Jaya and Simunjan had benefited from numerous development projects over the past three decades, particularly in infrastructure, which had significantly improved the well-being of the people.
She said the construction of the Batang Sadong Bridge, road upgrades, the expansion of water and electricity supply, and digital technology development reflected the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to enhancing the people’s quality of life.
“This progress did not happen on its own. It is the result of continuous efforts under the leadership of the Premier of Sarawak, who has ensured that the state’s wealth is channelled back to the people through various initiatives, including free tertiary education at Sarawak Government-owned institutions and various welfare assistance programmes for those in need,” she said.
Rodiyah also praised the strong spirit of cooperation and unity demonstrated by residents of Kampung Sungai Buluh throughout the programme.
She said the community’s active participation in producing handicrafts, building Sarawak Day-themed replicas using recycled materials, and involving youths and schoolchildren in various activities reflected a deep sense of pride and love for the state that should continue to be nurtured.
She also called on the people to remain united and continue supporting the government’s development agenda in achieving the aspirations of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) for a more progressive and prosperous Sarawak.
The programme was jointly organised by UKAS Samarahan Division, the P200 Batang Sadong Parliamentary Service Centre and the N25 Simunjan State Constituency Service Centre in collaboration with the Kampung Sungai Buluh Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).
