KUCHING: Serian District Council (SDC) will intensify efforts to implement several tourism and community projects across the division before the end of this year.
Its chairman, Datuk Peter Minos, said the projects would become his main focus beginning early June following a government directive requiring them to be completed or tendered out by December 2026.
He listed nine key projects identified for implementation under the council’s development agenda.
Among them is the new SDC headquarters under the 13th Malaysia Plan, which is expected to strengthen administrative efficiency and improve public service delivery in Serian.
Tourism-related developments also feature prominently, including the Ranchan Pool and Bung Mako projects, which are expected to enhance recreational facilities and attract more local visitors.
Minos said the Pancor Dayak hot spring project would capitalise on the area’s natural attraction and eco-tourism potential.
Located in the Dayak village area, the hot spring has long been regarded as a hidden gem with prospects to become a wellness and leisure destination.
The proposed Pesang River Resort and Bung Sadong Resort are also expected to boost rural tourism by promoting river-based recreation and nature retreats while creating economic opportunities for nearby communities.
Another project, the Terbat Tagang Resort, is expected to support environmental conservation and eco-tourism activities through the tagang system, a community-based river management initiative popular in Sarawak.
The Community Garden Serian project, meanwhile, aims to promote greener public spaces and community participation while adding to the district’s landscape appeal.
Also included are the Silabur Cave Resort and Riih Daso Lake developments.
Silabur Cave is already known among adventure and cave exploration enthusiasts, while Riih Daso Lake possesses scenic value that could potentially attract eco-tourism and recreational activities.
However, Minos declined to reveal the total allocation or funding sources for the projects.
“Not to be disclosed yet,” he said when asked on the matter.
