SIBU: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has deployed 10 hook sets along Batang Igan as part of crocodile population reduction (culling) operations aimed at mitigating the risk of human-crocodile conflicts in the area.
According to a post on SFC’s Facebook page, the operations are being carried out from July 21 to August 2 as a proactive measure in locations identified as high-risk.
The hook sets were installed on Wednesday from the mouth of Sungai Lubuk Kabang to the vicinity of SK Sungai Pinang, with the locations selected based on field assessments.
SFC said all 10 hook sets are now active and will be monitored regularly throughout the operation period.
The corporation said the culling exercise is intended to reduce the crocodile population in identified risk areas and enhance public safety for communities living and carrying out activities along the river.
SFC also encouraged the public to stay alert in crocodile-prone areas and to report crocodile sightings through the Sarawak Croc Watch mobile application.
