KUCHING: The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sarawak has appealed to blood donors and caring Malaysians to help top up the blood bank of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) as it is short of B and AB blood types.
Its director Chai King Sing said the stock of these two types of blood is in dire need of replenishment.
He said a community response has been mounted and the public are urged to show their love and care for the sick especially those in need of this life-saving gift.
MRC, as an auxiliary to the public authorities in the humanitarian field, is supporting the SGH Blood Bank, he said in a media statement issued yesterday.
“At all times, the blood level has to be maintained to a satisfactory level ready for use.
During this Covid-19 pandemic, the challenges of the health care-givers are even greater.
“The blood bank, with the assistance of MRC and the Council of Kuching City South is setting up a blood collection centre at Dewan Masyarakat, Jalan Padungan,” he said.
According to Chai, the blood collection centre would commence operation daily (Monday to Sunday) from 9am to 4pm, effective March 24.
The Dewan Masyarakat was picked as the venue because it offers a spacious, conducive and safe environment for blood donors to donate their blood, he said.
