SIBU: An estimated 10,000 participants are expected to join the Christmas Parade 2025 corganised by the Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS) Sibu Branch.
It will be held on December 13, next Saturday.
Its chairman, Archdeacon Jose Jol Endru, said that this year the Roman Catholic Church would be the host of the parade.
“We hope for good weather on the day of the parade. I believe that if the weather is good, more participants will join it, like last year,” he told reporters after leading a carolling event in conjunction with upcoming Christmas season at the Grace Itun Upo longhouse, Sungai Salim, here on Saturday night.
More than 50 carollers from the St John’s Anglican Church were involved in the event, which is held every year before Christmas.
Jose, who is also the Vicar of St John’s Anglican Church, said on December 13, participants must gather at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 as early as 5:00 pm.
The parade is expected to start at 7:00 pm.
According to him, the parade will start at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 and pass through several streets in the town centre.
Last year, the parade started from Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang to Jalan Bujang Suntong, Jalan Pulau, Jalan Channel, Jalan Mission, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Jalan Ramin, Jalan Morshidi Sidek, Jalan Sanyan and returned to the square again, before ending along Jalan Kampung Nyabor in front of the WTK building.
“We hope that this year, more participants will join the parade and at the same time, we pray for good weather,” he stated.
Meanwhile, he said, St John’s Anglican Church Sibu would hold a performance at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 in conjunction with the Christmas Carnival organised by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) on December 19 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
“We are very honoured to be invited by SMC to perform, and record our highest appreciation for this opportunity,” Jose added.
