KUCHING: A 71-year-old woman, Emily Andrew, recently began receiving assistance from Hope Place.
Emily lives in Kampung Mambong with her two daughters and their family, and suffers from multiple health issues, including stroke, kidney problems, diabetes, and cataracts.
Following a stroke two years ago, she fell at home and has been relying on a wheelchair for mobility.
Alongside her late husband, she cultivated rice and bananas on a small scale, but after his passing in 2017, she stopped farming.
Emily’s household comprises her two adult daughters, Nilin, 40, and her younger daughter, Elizabeth, 31, who has Down syndrome, her son-in-law and three grandchildren.
Nilin’s husband, a daily-wage construction worker, is the sole breadwinner of the family.
Despite the challenges, Nilin takes responsibility for caring for both her mother and sister while ensuring her family’s needs are met.
Elizabeth receives RM200 in monthly social welfare aid, while Hope Place assists Emily by providing adult diapers and essentials for her daily care.
For members of the public who wish to support Hope Place, donations can be made to Hope Place’s Maybank account at 5112 8900 1160 or through Sarawak Pay / S Pay Global QR Code, which is available on their Facebook page.
