KUCHING: Newly elected Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai has called on all members to close ranks and move forward in unity.

He said that unity among members and leaders is crucial for the party to remain strong and continue championing rural development.

“The party’s election is over, the past is past. Now, we must work together. Unity is very important for us to progress.

“Without unity, we cannot work together. And with unity, we can go stronger this time,” he said.

He said this to reporters after the official announcement of the party’s new line-up for the 2025-2028 term.

Sikie, who is also the Minister in the Premier’s Department, said the TDC, which saw the top positions contested, reflected PRS’ commitment to democratic principles.

However, he stressed that the time has come for all members to focus on strengthening the party and serving the people.

The Kakus assemblyman also pledged to lead PRS with a focus on cooperation, inclusiveness, and teamwork within the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition to advance the state’s development agenda.

“As you know, PRS is a rural-based party, and most of our elected representatives are from rural constituencies. The expectations of our people are high, especially in terms of development.

“Therefore, we will work closely with the Premier and GPS components to continue improving the lives of rural communities,” he said.

He added the party will continue to give priority to enhancing basic infrastructure, including roads, electricity supply, and internet connectivity, as well as addressing dilapidated schools in rural areas.

“We also want to improve the household income through agriculture and land development, in line with the Premier’s aspiration to achieve an average household income of RM15,000 by 2030,” he said.

Sikie succeeded Datuk Seri Joseph Salang Gandum as PRS president after winning the party election yesterday (Oct 19).
