SIMUNJAN: The Simunjan Esplanade will soon undergo major improvements with the installation of a new roof under a RM2.18 million upgrading project.

The project officially commenced today and is scheduled for completion within nine months, by April 6, 2026.

Simunjan Assemblyman, Awla Dris, said the new roof is crucial to enhance comfort and safety for the public, especially during community events.

“This esplanade is the heart of the community, a place for families to relax, youths to exercise, and residents to gather.

“Installing a roof ensures the space can be used comfortably regardless of weather, and supports year-round activities,” he told the media during the project launch.

He added that the improved facility will allow for bigger events, including government programmes, festive celebrations, and religious or community functions.

Awla expressed optimism that the upgraded esplanade could serve as an economic space with stalls, small businesses, and cultural programmes contributing to the local economy.

He noted the project is part of the state government’s broader effort to enhance rural recreational infrastructure under its balanced development agenda.

Awla later witnessed the symbolic handover of project documents from the council to the contractor, marking the start of construction.
