MIRI: Six local men, aged between 26 and 46, are facing the death penalty or life imprisonment following the seizure of 245.26 grammes of eEcstasy and ketamine during a police raid in the early hours of Monday (Feb 10).
The estimated value of the seized drugs is RM3,340, according to Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, who confirmed the arrests.
The operation, conducted by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division at the Sarawak district police headquarters, took place between 12.20 am and 1.:05 am at an entertainment venue in the Miri.
The six suspects are believed to be involved in drug trafficking. They have been remanded for six days following their appearance at the Miri Court.
The case is being investigated under Sections 39B, 39A(2), and 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, the suspects could face the death penalty by hanging or, alternatively, life imprisonment with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
