KAPIT: Six individuals were arrested during an anti-drug operation conducted by the Sibu National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) in the district on Tuesday (Nov 11).
The operation, codenamed ‘Ops Cegah’, involved seven AADK officers and personnel who targeted several identified areas around Kapit town.
The agency said the operation was part of a proactive effort to detect, catch and ensure drug abusers undergo treatment and rehabilitation programmes offered by the agency, either within the community or at its rehabilitation centres.
It was also aimed at breaking the supply and demand chain of illegal drugs within targeted areas identified by AADK.
Initial urine screenings found all six suspects, aged between 28 and 49, positive for methamphetamine.
They are currently being investigated under the Drug and Substance Abuse (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, which was recently amended.
AADK said it would continue to intensify similar operations in support of its goal towards achieving a ‘Drug Controlled 2025’.
