SIMUNJAN: “Indai agi tinduk, anang ngacau indai tinduk, indai agi lelak” (“Mom is sleeping, don’t disturb her, she’s tired”).

Six-year-old Ivy Chong An Qi’s tender words echoed through Rumah Wilson Bada, Gran B as her mother’s remains were brought home on Jan 2.

As the world welcomed 2025 with hope, Ivy’s family faced an unimaginable loss when 35-year-old MC Magdeline Jampang perished in a road accident along Jalan Pan Borneo, Kampung Sabal Kruin on Jan 1.

This was shared by Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) Group CEO Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed in a Facebook post recently.

Despite their grief, there was a small glimmer of relief as Perkeso stepped forward to support the grieving family.

Mohammed Azman said that they have conducted checks and found that Magdeline’s contribution under Act 4 qualifies her family to receive the Survivor’s Pension and Funeral Benefit.

“These benefits ensure a lifetime pension for her 40-year-old husband Chong Sau Nieng, while Ivy and her three-year-old sister Crandley Chong An Yin will receive periodic payments until they turn 21 or complete their first degree,” he said.

Perkeso’s Sri Aman team, led by office manager Joseph Sawong, Prihatin squad officer Nur Liyana Haldi, and operations assistant Casper Herald, personally visited the family to hand over the benefits and offer their condolences.

Mohammed Azman also expressed hope for the family’s strength in facing the difficult road ahead.

The tragedy occurred around 7.30am on Jan 1 when Magdeline’s pick-up truck skidded and plunged into a water-filled ditch by the roadside.

Firefighters from the Simunjan station were deployed to the scene, about 62km away, and they found her pinned under the vehicle.
