BETONG: The reconstruction project for the dilapidated buildings at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Enteban under the ‘Sekolah Daif 2.0’ initiative is being implemented to strengthen access to quality education and provide a more conducive learning environment for rural students.

Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi said the provision of more conducive educational facilities is crucial in ensuring rural students enjoy access to quality and systematic education.

“The construction of new facilities, including hostels and teachers’ quarters, is expected to improve the effectiveness of the learning process while providing teachers with a better environment to guide students,” he said in an UKAS report during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project held recently.

Roy added that the development of the educational infrastructure would not only benefit the younger generation but also serve as a long-term investment in the development of the local community.

Meanwhile, Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa expressed appreciation for the government’s concern in upgrading the school, which was previously categorised as ‘Sekolah Kurang Murid’ (SKM).

He hoped the construction of the new four-storey building would become a catalyst for the development of excellent human capital, particularly from the Ulu Skrang area.

The project, implemented by the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) as the executing agency, has a contract period of 30 months and is expected to be fully completed by Sept 12, 2028.

The scope of the project includes the construction of administration and academic blocks, male and female student hostels, a dining hall, teachers’ quarters, a gazebo, a guardhouse, as well as mechanical, electrical and external infrastructure works.
