BETONG: The pedestrian overpass project at Sekolah Kebangsaan Nanga Gayau, equipped with comprehensive safety features, is scheduled for completion on Sept 14.

The RM2.38 million project, implemented by the Betong Division Public Works Department (PWD), is being carried out by SARAOIL (M) Sdn Bhd under a 12-month contract that began on Sept 15, 2025.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said funding for the project was channelled through the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) as part of the government’s commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure development.

“Once completed, the overpass is expected to benefit local residents and students by providing a safer, more systematic and conducive pedestrian route, in line with efforts to enhance overall well-being in the Betong Division,” said PWD in a statement posted on its Facebook page today (May 10).

The project involves the construction of a new pedestrian overpass measuring about 36.4 metres in length and 5.7 metres in height.

Its main components include structural works, roofing installation, safety railings, concrete piling, lighting systems and a lightning protection system to ensure user safety and comfort, particularly for the school community.
