LUBOK ANTU: A RM22.5-million project to build a new hostel, six classrooms and other supporting facilities at SMK Engkelili here is progressing smoothly and on track for completion by February 2026.
The Ministry of Works (KKR) said the project had reached 61 per cent progress since works began on May 2, 2023.
“SMK Engkelili, an important secondary school in the Lubok Antu district, currently has 1,068 students from Form 1 to Form 6 in a single session, supported by 89 teachers and 14 staff.
“Once the project is completed, the new facilities will provide a more modern, comfortable and conducive learning environment,” it said in a statement today.
KKR added the project is undertaken via the Design and Build (D&B) method by Welfield Services Sdn Bhd, with the Public Works Department’s (PWD’s) Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) as the implementing agency.
“Apart from the six-classroom academic block and hostel for 200 students, the project also includes the provision of electricity supply, a pump house, water tank and other essential facilities,” it said.
The ministry also urges all parties involved to remain committed in ensuring the project is delivered on time.
“This effort will not only benefit the school community but also reflect the values of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasises care, compassion and well-being for future generations,” it said.
Earlier today, KKR Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan, visited the project site.
The regular ground visits are part of the ministry’s culture to ensure projects stay on schedule, apart from addressing issues on the ground that could affect project management and implementation.
