KUCHING: Top solar and energy company,Solarvest Holdings Bhd (Solarvest) has secured a RM1.06 billion role in Malaysia’s largest LSS5+ solar project.

The project, with an installed capacity of 690MWp, is among the largest utility-scale solar photovoltaic farms in ASEAN.

Solarvest, through its subsidiary Atlantic Blue Sdn Bhd, has been appointed as the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) and technology partner for the project.

The contract was awarded by Malakoff Corporation Bhd through its subsidiary, Malakoff Silver Solar Sdn Bhd.

Located in Larut and Matang in Perak, the development spans close to 1,400 acres, equivalent to about 1,050 football fields.

“The project is scheduled to achieve commercial operation in the first quarter of 2028 and is expected to generate up to 970,000 MWh of clean energy annually.

“This is enough to power an estimated 230,000 households each year, representing about two to three per cent of households in Malaysia,” it said in a statement.

Solarvest said the project comes as traditional energy markets face increasing volatility and energy demand continues to rise.

It added that large-scale renewable energy infrastructure would help strengthen Malaysia’s energy system resilience, while reinforcing renewable energy as a reliable, sustainable and predictable energy source for the national energy security.

“As a clean energy technology partner, Solarvest would engineer advanced system designs to optimise energy yield and integrate high-efficiency solar technologies to support long-term performance over 20 years,” it said.

Solarvest’s Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Davis Chong Chun Shiong, said the project reflected the group’s commitment to national development and energy independence.

“Driven by our commitment to technology excellence, Solarvest continues to deliver scalable and reliable clean energy solutions for the greater good of national development and energy independence.

“Energy security today is no longer defined solely by the pace of generation growth, but by how efficiently we manage and optimise the energy system.

“The forecasting capabilities, along with the responsiveness and flexibility of our energy distribution systems, will define our grid stability and scalability,” he said.

He pointed out that smart grid technologies would become essential as renewable energy grows, especially in managing intermittency.

“As renewable energy scales, smart grid technologies will be essential to manage intermittency, and the integration of advanced solutions such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), supporting grid modernisation and development of a future-ready power system for Malaysia,” he stressed.

Chong noted that the project adds significant momentum to its growing order book, which now stands at RM2.7 billion, as it enters a new financial year.

“We are also looking forward to the upcoming LSS6, with the expected inclusion of grid-scale BESS to support the next phase of Malaysia’s energy transition aligned with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).”
