LIMBANG: An attempt to smuggle 240kg of fresh chicken tails across the Malaysia-Brunei border was thwarted after soldiers intercepted the shipment during a pre-dawn patrol yesterday (July 18).
The smuggling bid was uncovered at about 4.30 am when troops from the Ninth Battalion of the Border Regiment got suspicious of a Proton Saga, driven by a man, travelling near the border.
The team intercepted the vehicle for inspections and it led to the discovery of 20 boxes containing fresh chicken tails, believed to have been bound for illegal transport across the border via a river route.
Soldiers arrested the driver and seized the fresh food supply as well as the vehicle before handing the case over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for further action.
Ninth Brigade Commander Brig Gen Datuk Jafri Sulaiman hailed the operation as another testament to the vigilance and readiness of border troops in protecting the country’s frontiers.
He said the Malaysian Army would continue to intensify border surveillance and enforcement without compromise to stamp out smuggling and other cross-border criminal activities.
