STPM results for Sarawak show stellar overall improvement

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded an improvement in its overall performance in the 2025 Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) examination, with the state’s Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) increasing to 2.75 from 2.68 in 2024.

Sarawak Education Director, Omar Mahli, said that 115 candidates, or 2.19 per cent of the total number of candidates, achieved a perfect CGPA of 4.00 in the examination.

“The STPM 2025 CGPA increased by 0.07 points compared to last year, from 2.68 to 2.75.

“In addition, the number of candidates who obtained a CGPA of 4.00 increased by 23 candidates, or 0.58 per cent, compared to STPM 2024,” he said.

His speech was delivered by Deputy Director of the School Management Sector at the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS), Dr Les Met, during the announcement of the 2025 STPM examination results at SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg here today (June 18).

Omar said that out of the 22 subjects offered to school candidates in Sarawak, nine subjects recorded an improvement in the full-pass rate compared to the previous year.

He added that the percentage of candidates who obtained full passes in four and five subjects rose to 98.71 per cent, up from 98.16 per cent in STPM 2024, representing an increase of 0.55 percentage points.

He also noted that 52 out of 79 schools in Sarawak recorded an improvement in their CGPA compared to last year’s STPM results.

“Overall, 5,257 candidates, or 99.96 per cent of the total STPM 2025 candidates in Sarawak, achieved full passes, reflecting the state’s continued improvement in academic performance,” he said.
