KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak is stepping up efforts to attract high-impact investments and accelerate its economic development agenda by strengthening strategic partnerships with key national financial, investment and regulatory institutions.

The initiative was led by Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel through a series of courtesy visits to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) here on Tuesday.

Abdullah, who is also chairman of ASSAR Asset Management Sdn Bhd (ASSAR Asset), introduced the company’s role as the Sarawak Government’s asset management company during a meeting with EPF chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali.

Both parties exchanged views on potential collaboration in investment management, covering fixed income, money market instruments and equities to enhance long-term investment value.

The Sarawak delegation also paid a courtesy call on Securities Commission Malaysia chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi to discuss governance and regulatory compliance involving initiatives undertaken by ASSAR Asset in collaboration with SiliconNet Technologies Sdn Bhd and Permodalan ASSAR.

During the meeting, Faiz also acknowledged Sarawak’s position as the “Battery of ASEAN”, recognising the state’s vast renewable energy potential and its role in supporting regional energy security.

Meanwhile, discussions with MITI focused on strengthening cooperation to attract strategic investments, accelerate industrial development and enhance Sarawak’s competitiveness as a regional investment destination.

According to Abdullah, close collaboration between Sarawak and national institutions will continue to serve as a catalyst for high-impact investments while creating more development opportunities in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
