KUCHING: Jaxer Digital Sdn Bhd aims to expand the use of its StudentQR application to Sarawak and Sabah to enhance student character development.

Its Executive Director, Datuk Indera Abdul Razif Asmuni, said the use of QR code technology is intended to shape students’ identity, character and self-value not only in school but continuously at home with parental involvement.

“This approach integrates the roles of schools, families and the community through a uniform, structured and continuous student identity, in line with the needs of present and future education,” he said.

He noted that the StudentQR application is currently being used by several schools in Sarawak, and the company is optimistic that more schools in the state will adopt it.

Abdul Razif said Pahang is the first state to implement QR codes as a student identity system in schools, encompassing the recording of Pahang’s customs and cultural elements, character development from home, as well as digital payment management.

Elaborating, he explained that through the programme, each student will have a QR code identity in the form of a badge or ID card used to record participation in Pahang’s cultural and customary activities at school, while also supporting character development at home with parental involvement.

“The same system also streamlines payment matters such as school fees and cooperative payments in a more orderly and efficient manner,” he said.

He added that the initiative is expected to ease school management, strengthen school-parent relationships, and position Pahang as a global pioneer in identity-, custom- and culture-based education through the use of modern technology.

Meanwhile, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Syed Huzaifah Syed Omar, said the implementation of StudentQR is being carried out in phases through a state-level approach, beginning with Pahang, followed by Johor, Terengganu, Perak, Sabah, Melaka and other states in Peninsular Malaysia.

“For Sarawak, implementation will be carried out through the Sarawak State Education Department, subject to administrative readiness and the willingness to adopt digital education approaches in line with the needs of school digital transformation,” he said.

“Nevertheless, since 2023, a total of 17 schools in Sarawak, including rural schools, have adopted the StudentQR system, proving that its implementation is practical and relevant, even in rural areas,” he added.
