BINTULU: An emergency call reporting an alleged suicide attempt last night (Sept 13) turned out to be a false alarm after firefighters found that the incident involved nothing more than a minor quarrel between a couple.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a distress call at 9.24pm regarding the alleged suicide attempt behind a hotel in Jalan Keppel.

Firefighters from Bintulu station were promptly dispatched to the scene, about 5km away, to perform the supposed rescue operation.

Upon arrival, the team confirmed that there was no suicide attempt. Instead, the incident only involved a minor quarrel between a couple.

No operation was necessary as the situation was found to be under control.

Firefighters advised the couple to disperse before returning to the station.

Police were also present at the scene to help maintain order.
