MUKAH: Police arrested two local labourers, aged 32 and 48, during a joint crime prevention operation at a roadblock along the Pan Borneo Highway Sibu-Bintulu stretch here on Thursday (Jun 18).

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the suspects were stopped in separate vehicles at about 11am during an integrated operation conducted by the district police headquarters (IPD).

“The first suspect, a 32-year-old labourer, was found in possession of 0.15g of crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine or syabu, concealed inside a transparent straw tube.

“The second suspect, aged 48, did not possess any physical drugs. However, urine screenings conducted on both men returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said in a statement today.

Muhamad Rizal said the first suspect is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession and Section 15(1) of the same Act for drug consumption.

The second suspect is being investigated solely under Section 15(1)(a) of the Act for drug consumption.

“The first suspect has been remanded for four days until June 23, while the second suspect has been released on police bail pending prosecution,” he added.
