TANJUNG MANIS: Environmental sustainability must continue to be safeguarded to ensure fishery resources in the Kuala Rajang constituency remain sustainable, while securing the livelihoods of the local fishing community.
Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the Sarawak government remains committed to implementing various initiatives to support fishermen and ensure the coastal fishing industry continues to grow and generate better incomes.
He said the release of fish fingerlings is one of the key conservation measures to maintain fish populations and ensure fishery resources remain sustainable for future generations.
Len also urged fishermen to adopt responsible and sustainable fishing practices to prevent overexploitation that could jeopardise future fish stocks.
“Marine resource conservation requires the cooperation of all parties, especially the fishing community, which plays a vital role in ensuring our aquatic ecosystems remain protected,” he said during a sea bass fingerling release programme at Iftitah Beach Resort here recently.
Len, who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman, said infrastructure developments, including the expansion of Tanjung Manis Airport and the improvement of the road network, would serve as catalysts for local economic growth.
He said the upgraded infrastructure would not only improve logistics and the marketing of seafood products, but also create greater market access for fisheries operators while stimulating economic activities in Tanjung Manis and Kuala Rajang.
