Swinburne launches blueprint to drive research that matters

KUCHING: Swinburne Sarawak has launched a research blueprint aimed at giving impetus to supporting a future-ready Sarawak.

Its Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Lau Hieng Ho, said the Swinburne Sarawak Research Masterplan 2030 aligns closely with the university’s strategic mission as a technology, innovation and entrepreneurship university.

He said the masterplan is also connected to the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, where research, innovation and human capital development are key enablers of economic resilience and sustainable growth.

“In this context, Swinburne is proud to play a catalytic role in supporting a future-ready Sarawak – through research that matters,” he said during the launch of the masterplan at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak campus here Monday (April 28).

“As Pro Vice-Chancellor and the chief executive officer, I want to reiterate the university/s unwavering commitment to growing our research ecosystem.

“We are also strengthening our alignment with our Melbourne campus – leveraging the power of a truly global research network to deliver local relevance and international excellence.”

The masterplan was officially launched by Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni at the ceremony attended by the university’s Board of Directors, industry partners, researchers and students.

Meanwhile, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) of Swinburne Sarawak, Professor Dr Ida Fatimawati Adi Badiozaman said the masterplan outlines the university’s approach to attract research talent and funding.

“By enhancing our reputation as an emerging Asia-Pacific research hub, we aim to draw in top PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and global experts. We are also committed to securing competitive research funding and grants, while ensuring our research activities meet national performance benchmarks such as MyRA.

“Today, we proudly unveil a strategic and visionary blueprint that articulates our long-term commitment to research that drives innovation, sustainability and real-world impact,” she added.
