KUCHING: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus (Swinburne Sarawak) and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for another three years, further cementing their collaboration in education, innovation, and talent development.
The renewed MoU, part of SEB’s Campus Ambassador Programme, will continue to provide Swinburne students with opportunities for consultancy, placements, internships, and industry projects, helping them gain real-world skills and a competitive edge in the workforce.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to support the education of Sarawak’s youth by offering avenues to apply their learning in real-world settings, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need before entering the workforce,” said SEB Group Chief Operating Officer James Ung.
He added that the partnership also opens doors to emerging technologies and initiatives that support Sarawak’s sustainable growth.
Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer Professor Lau Hieng Ho highlighted the tangible benefits of the partnership, particularly in scholarships and employment opportunities for students.
“From 2019 to 2022, SEB awarded scholarships to 76 of our students, and from 2023 to 2024, another 47 students benefited.
“Employment numbers are also rising, with 24 graduates hired between 2019 and 2022, and 37 from 2023 to 2025. We hope this trend continues,” he said.
The collaboration extends beyond scholarships and employment, encompassing research and development, STEM outreach, corporate social responsibility programmes, staff development, and sponsorship of student initiatives such as the Shell Eco-Marathon competition over the past two years.
First signed in 2019 and renewed in 2023, the MoU was formally renewed at Swinburne Sarawak’s campus on August 15, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to nurturing young talent and contributing to Sarawak’s education and energy sectors.
