PADAWAN: A motorcyclist lost his life after being rear-ended by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) near the Vision Height 3 housing area along Jalan Batu Kawa-Bau today.
Padawan District Police Chief, Supt Barry William, said 56-year-old Nady Incheh from Kampung Reteh Plaman, Jalan Mongkos, Tebakang, was killed in a collision which occured around 10:10am this morning.
Initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred when a sports utility vehicle (SUV), driven by a 63-year-old businessman traveling from Batu Kawa towards Lundu, lost control in the middle lane.
“The SUV driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the rear of the motorcycle, which was positioned in the rightmost lane preparing to enter the P-turn.
“The impact threw the rider onto the road divider, while both vehicles continued forward, crashing into the central guardrail before skidding into the opposite lane,” he said.
Medical officers from the Sarawak General Hospital pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 11:26 am after he sustained severe injuries to his legs and face.
The SUV driver and his 45-year-old male passenger escaped the incident unhurt.
Barry added that the crash caused severe traffic congestion in both directions, requiring traffic management from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) and Padawan District Traffic Police.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
