KUCHING: A teen couple who pleaded guilty to stealing a motorcycle will know their fate on August 7 after the Magistrates’ Court here ordered a social report to be prepared for them.

The 18-year-old man and 17-year-old girl appeared before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali today after admitting to committing the offence together at a cafe near, Stutong, at about 1:00 am on March 19.

The court also allowed both accused bail of RM1,600 each without deposit, with their parents acting as local sureties pending the submission of the social report.

They were charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, for stealing a Yamaha Lagenda motorcycle belonging to a man.

The offence carries a punishment of imprisonment for not less than one year and not more than seven years, as well as a fine, upon conviction.

According to the case facts, the motorcycle was reported missing after the owner parked it in a locked condition beneath a shop building near the cafe, at about 4:00 am on March 16.

The owner discovered the motorcycle missing when he returned at about 6:30 am on the same day.

Police later arrested the two teenagers during an operation at a house in Kampung Sebako, Sematan, on March 19, and recovered the stolen motorcycle, along with a screwdriver and a mobile phone.

Investigations found that the pair was in possession of the Yamaha Lagenda motorcycle, which they knew was stolen property.

The owner later identified the recovered motorcycle as his.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan appeared for the prosecution. Both the accused were unrepresented.
