BAU: A 17-year-old motorcyclist has been killed after being hit by a car believed to have been driven negligently while overtaking, last night (May 1).
Bau police chief Act Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the crash occurred at about 9.30 pm along KM2 Jalan Bau–Kuching near the Kampung Buso junction here.
He said initial investigations found that the car was travelling towards Batu Kawa, while the victim was riding alone from the opposite direction.
“The driver is believed to have been overtaking a vehicle ahead but failed to avoid the oncoming motorcycle. The road surface was wet and slippery at the time,” he said.
The teenager was rushed to Bau Hospital but was pronounced dead at about 10.38 pm while receiving treatment.
The 29-year-old driver sustained minor injuries to his arm.
Mohd Haide said both vehicles have been taken to the Bau district police headquarters for further examination by Puspakom and the Chemistry Department.
No CCTV footage or dashcam recording was available at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
