BAU: An 18-year-old woman was left RM2,306 poorer after falling for a fake travel package promoted on Facebook, where promised tickets and hotel bookings failed to materialise.

The case was first reported to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) yesterday (May 2).

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the victim claimed she had been cheated while purchasing travel tickets online.

“She informed us that she made several transactions from her bank account to accounts provided by the suspect after dealing with a Facebook page named ‘Golden Tour And Travel’.

“She later realised she had been scammed when the promised tickets and hotel arrangements were not delivered,” he said.

Initial investigations found that payments were made to two accounts — a Touch ‘n Go e-wallet account and a Bank Islam account registered under an individual.

Further checks on the phone number and accounts involved found no prior records linked to scam activities.

Mohd Haide said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.
