KUCHING: A 14-year-old boy has been ordered by the Magistrates’ Court to attend the Tunas Bakti School for three years after pleading guilty to possessing a stolen motorcycle in July.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi handed down the sentence following a moral report from the Department of Social Welfare (JKM).

In addition to the three-year school sentence, the boy was ordered to be placed under the supervision of a Moral Officer for two years under the Child Act 2001.

The charge against the boy stated that he was in possession of a stolen Yamaha motorcycle belonging to a 24-year-old man at an unnumbered house in Jalan Sungai Maong Tengah around 2pm on July 28.

The charge falls under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential punishment of imprisonment for a term not less than six months and not exceeding five years, along with the possibility of a fine.

The incident began when the complainant, who was about to go to work, discovered on July 11 that his motorcycle, parked in front of a golf equipment shop in Jalan Satok, had been stolen.

The complainant filed a report, leading to the arrest of the accused on July 28.

The investigation confirmed that the boy had possession of the stolen motorcycle, and he admitted to taking it and storing it in the house.

The motorcycle’s engine chassis number also matched that of the complainant.
The prosecution was handled by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused did not have legal representation.
