PARIS, France: A French teenager has died in an accident during celebrations of the national football team’s quarterfinal victory over Morocco at the World Cup, German Press Agency (dpa) reported, citing radio Europe 1 today.

The report said that the 17-year-old girl climbed onto a tractor unit, fell, and was then run over, the report said, citing emergency services.

The truck driver was arrested and another youth, who had witnessed the scene, was taken to hospital in a state of shock, Europe 1 said.

France beat Morocco 2-0 in Foxborough on Thursday night (July 9) and France had beefed up security in the country and especially in Paris.

But French media said today that it was mostly peaceful afterwards, even though there was a potential for trouble because more than two million Moroccans and people of Moroccan descent live in the country.

Broadcasters RMC Sport said that 10 people were arrested in the Paris metropolitan area for various offences. – BERNAMA-dpa
