MUKAH: The construction of the Tellian Bypass has reached 52.13 per cent completion, placing the project slightly ahead of schedule.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said smooth implementation on site, including technical coordination, logistics and construction scheduling, has contributed to the project’s progress.
“The systematic planning of work phases has enabled construction to proceed according to schedule, while also opening up the possibility of completing the project ahead of its initial target in December this year.
“It reflects a high level of readiness among all parties involved, including contractors and implementing agencies,” he said during a working visit to inspect the project yesterday (Apr 27) as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
Meanwhile, Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the project was approved in 2017 and underwent several phases of coordination before full implementation commenced.
He expressed confidence that the contractor would be able to complete the project ahead of its target date, which is set before Dec 9, 2026.
“The planning also involves integrating the road network, including proposed additional routes linking village areas to the Coastal Highway via Jalan Kelapa Baru,” he said.
Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said the steady progress reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring all aspects of implementation, including safety and traffic efficiency, are given due attention.
He also said the bypass is a strategic initiative to reduce reliance on village roads previously used by heavy vehicles such as industrial and palm oil lorries.
“With this alternative route, traffic flow can be better managed, thereby enhancing the safety of local residents,” he said.
