BANGKOK, Thailand: Thailand has pledged to step up cooperation with Cambodia through the Regional Border Committee (RBC) and General Border Committee (GBC), reaffirming its resolve to safeguard peace and stability along their shared frontier.
Royal Thai Navy deputy spokesperson, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachiayaphan, said Thailand remains committed to resolving tensions with Cambodia through peaceful dialogue and in full respect of international law.
“The Royal Thai Navy reaffirms its readiness to cooperate with Cambodia under the RBC and GBC frameworks, with the shared objective of strengthening peace, stability and cooperation along the Thai-Cambodian border,” he said in a statement after the Thai-Cambodian RBC meeting in Trat province on today.
Commander of the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defence Command, Vice Admiral Apichat Sapprasert, and Cambodian delegation led by Commander of the Third Military Region, Major General Ouy Heang attended the meeting.
Parach said the discussions underlined Thailand’s commitment to resolving issues peacefully in line with international principles, while also advancing proposals on landmine clearance and the suppression of online scams.
“Although the Cambodian side has yet to provide a concrete response to these proposals, Thailand remains hopeful that Cambodia will show goodwill in future meetings, particularly in supporting landmine clearance operations along the border and in taking joint action against scam-related activities,” he said.
During the meeting, both sides signed the Minutes of the Extraordinary Regional Border Committee Meeting between Thailand’s Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defence Command and Cambodia’s Military Region 3.
Thailand and Cambodia also pledged to implement the outcomes of the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on August 7, he said. – Kenny Teng/BERNAMA
