Thieving couple arrested at supermarket

MIRI: A couple, aged 25 and 35 years old were detained by the police on Sunday, less than five hours after they allegedly broke into an office of a supermarket in Taman Tunku.

During the intrusion, cash amounting to RM6,000 and others belongings was stolen. The total loss was estimated at around RM10,000.

According to Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, the break-in was discovered by the supermarket supervisor around 8am that same day, and she immediately alerted her manager.

A police report was immediately lodged and a team of Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) IPD successfully tracked down the duo and detained both of them at the commercial centre at 3.35pm.

During the arrest, Miri CID also seized several items from the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
