KUCHING: Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM Sarawak) recently held an AYS Capacity Building Programme 2026 at the AZAM Complex here.
The three-day initiative aimed at strengthening youth leadership and fostering structured, impactful and sustainable volunteerism among members of AZAM Young Souls (AYS).
The programme brought together AYS members for a series of experiential learning activities designed to build discipline, teamwork, responsibility and values-based leadership, and was facilitated by Ariff Irwani, Deputy Chairman of AZAM Sarawak.
The programme, themed “Volunteerism and Moderation”, featured interactive sessions, group activities, and hands-on engagements that challenged participants physically, emotionally, and intellectually.
In his welcoming address, AZAM Sarawak Strategic Communication, Media & Youth Relations Manager Mohd Hassnal Hakim Junaidi said the programme was a process of character and values formation aligned with AZAM’s role as a participatory communication organisation.
“AYS Capacity Building is not about who is the best, but about building attitude, discipline and a sense of responsibility.
“For AZAM, youths are not just programme implementers, but communication partners who carry values and positive messages to society,” he said.
Meanwhile, AYS President, Theron Then Kai Yuan, said the programme plays a crucial role in strengthening unity, direction and leadership continuity within AYS, particularly as the current committee approaches the end of its term.
“This programme helps align members and provides early exposure to new committee members on the values, work culture and leadership responsibilities that must be sustained to ensure AYS remains a credible youth platform,” he said.
The programme also included several new AYS members as part of AZAM Sarawak’s efforts to provide a structured orientation process to ensure continuity of organisational values and leadership culture.
One of the new participants, Hakimi, described the programme as offering deeper exposure compared to previous youth engagements, citing its strong focus on self-development and values.
Among the key objectives of AYS Capacity Building 2026 are to strengthen the spirit of volunteerism and moderation among youth, develop socially conscious, values-based leadership, enhance understanding of AYS members’ roles in supporting AZAM initiatives, and build a strong foundation of character, accountability, and teamwork.
AZAM Sarawak said the programme also builds on its strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED).
