GENEVA: During an avalanche training course in the Swiss region of Grisons, a 40-member group suddenly faced a serious situation when a wall of snow approximately 30 metres wide broke off above the training area, burying three people, German news agency dpa reported.
They were rescued largely unharmed within 10 minutes by others, the Rescue Air Squadron said on Saturday. One person was flown to hospital for observation.
The Rescue Air Squadron emphasised that for the rescue of those buried, avalanche devices that emit a signal and a rapid response are crucial. Both were reportedly the case during the incident.
