MELAKA: A three-year-old girl who was reported to have tested positive for drugs is believed to have consumed candy containing the prohibited substance, which is suspected to belong to a social media influencer.

Melaka Police Chief, Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, said initial investigations found that the drug-laced candy was purchased by a 39-year-old male suspect who lives with his mother, the toddler’s babysitter.

“The suspect claimed he bought the candy from a neighbouring country and stored it in the refrigerator at his mother’s house.

“However, unbeknownst to him, the child, who is fond of sweets, took and consumed the candy before she was later found unconscious,” he said in a statement here on Thursday.

Dzulkhairi said the victim remained unconscious despite several attempts to wake her, prompting her to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.

He said the candy in question was not found during the subsequent raid at the suspect’s house.

On Wednesday (Apr 22), it was reported that a man, who is a social media influencer, was arrested to assist in the investigation into the case involving the three-year-old girl who tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), or cannabis.

Dzulkhairi was reported as saying that the suspect, who is also the son of the child’s babysitter, had been remanded for seven days from April 16 before the remand was extended by another five days until this Monday to facilitate investigations. – BERNAMA
