SIBU: About 15,000 consumer accounts here face further water supply disruption after a delivery valve malfunctioned during efforts to restore supply following a major pipeline repair.
The 600mm diameter delivery valve at the Salim Water Treatment Plant developed an unexpected fault while supply restoration was underway, delaying the recovery of water supply to several areas.
In a statement today, Sarawak Water said repair works on the affected valve were ongoing and expected to be completed between 1 pm and 3 pm on Aug 14.
The repair of the 1,000mm diameter main pipeline near Lorong Kiew Nang 1 was completed early this morning.
However, water supply will not return to normal immediately after the valve repair as the distribution system needs time to refill and water pressure must be gradually rebuilt.
Supply will therefore be restored progressively, with some areas receiving water earlier than others depending on their location within the distribution system.
Among the affected areas are Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Sibu Jaya, Jalan Durin Link up to Durin Bridge, Sibu Airport, Eco Garden, Taman Primeview, Taman Azalea, Taman Sanhill and Taman Kemuyang.
Areas along Jalan Satria, Jalan Bumi Indah, Jalan Ruai, Jalan Bougenvilla, Jalan Kaland and Jalan Pine, as well as Rascom Camp and Rumah Nari up to the Sibu Bintulu junction, are also affected.
Sarawak Water has deployed water tankers to affected areas to provide temporary water supply while repair and restoration works continue.
Consumers may experience low water pressure or discoloured water during the recovery period.
Those affected by discoloured water are advised to let their taps run until the water becomes clear before using it.
Sarawak Water apologised for the inconvenience and said further updates would be issued through its official communication channels.
