SIBU: Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has assured that all victims affected by a storm in Sibu Jaya yesterday (July 19) will receive the necessary assistance.

Tiong visited storm-hit areas in Taman Sibu Jaya yesterday, inspected the damaged Sibu Jaya Rumah Asap and met 11 victims staying at the Sibu Jaya Community Hall.

“The priority at this time is to ensure that every victim receives the appropriate assistance. I have instructed my officers to inspect all affected houses so that no victim is left out, including cases where damage is only discovered after the rain,” he said in a Facebook post.

Tiong added that he had also requested the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) to conduct a drone survey to assess the condition of roofs throughout the Sibu Jaya area before a comprehensive report is submitted.

On the damaged Rumah Asap Sibu Jaya, he said he had been informed that the local council would provide tents for temporary use.

He added that he would hold discussions with Sibu Jaya developer Amcorp to determine the best way to rebuild the facility so that the community, particularly members of the Iban community who depend on it for their livelihood, can resume their activities as soon as possible.

“As long as there is room to help, I and the relevant agencies will continue to do our best to ensure that every issue faced by residents is addressed. Most importantly, the safety and welfare of the people will always remain our priority,” he said.
