KUCHING: National pickleball professional, Toi Sieu Ee, says the future of the sport lies not only in competition, but also in preserving its fun and community-driven spirit as it continues to grow in popularity across Malaysia.

Sieu Ee who balances her sporting career with being a mother of two teenagers, said maintaining enjoyment in the game is key to the long-term development of players.

“Most importantly, always remember to enjoy the game.

“If you lose, you’re always learning something. There’s always a match tomorrow,” she told Sarawak Tribune during the Waddle x Podium Project event powered by Friday at Star Pickleball on Wednesday (May 27).

Sieu Ee encouraged players to embrace setbacks as part of the learning process and remain open to constructive feedback in order to improve.

The Kuala Lumpur-based athlete also highlighted her involvement in community initiatives, including workshops focused on skills development, particularly in doubles play.

“I don’t really do one-on-one coaching, but I do workshops when I have time,” said the professional player.

Outside of coaching and competition, Sieu Ee said balancing family life with professional sport is made possible through a strong support system.

“I think the support system is very important. It always takes a village.

“I’m lucky to have my family, my husband, my parents and extra help who support and understand my journey,” she said.

Sieu Ee believes community-based programmes and fun-focused formats will help ensure pickleball remains sustainable as it grows nationwide.

“As much as it’s competitive, it should also be fun, so everyone can really enjoy it,” she added.
