MIRI: Eighteen outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2025 students from SM Pei Min were recognised during an incentive presentation ceremony held at the school auditorium on Wednesday (May 6).
Pujut assemblyman and Miri Mayor, Adam Yii Siew Sang, described the recognition as more than just a reward, but a motivation for students to continue striving for success beyond secondary school.
He said the achievements attained by the students were the result of hard work, discipline and perseverance throughout their academic journey.
“SPM is only one phase in life and not the end. Instead, it marks the beginning of bigger challenges ahead. Continue seeking knowledge and maintain the determination to succeed,” he said when officiating at the ceremony as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
During the ceremony, incentives were presented to students who achieved excellent results, involving three students with 10As, three students with 9As, two students with 8As, three students with 7As, one student with 6As, four students with 5As, and two students with 4As.
Yii also highlighted the state government’s initiative to provide free tertiary education, describing it as an important step towards expanding access to higher education for young people regardless of financial background.
“Knowledge is power and continuous learning remains the key to staying competitive. As such, I encourage students to make full use of the opportunities available to shape a brighter future,” he said.
Meanwhile, SM Pei Min’s Principal, Pui Mui Kiaw, described the school’s overall SPM 2025 performance as highly encouraging, including two students who achieved straight As in all 10 subjects.
She said science subjects, particularly chemistry, continued to record excellent results with the percentage of A grades surpassing 90 per cent, reflecting the strong commitment shown by both teachers and students.
“This incentive not only recognises past achievements, but also serves as a catalyst for students to continue improving themselves while developing important values such as discipline, perseverance and problem-solving skills,” she said.
School board director, Khor Ooi Long, meanwhile, expressed appreciation to teachers and parents for their important role in supporting the students’ success.
He reminded students that success does not come by chance, but through continuous effort and the willingness to persevere despite challenges.
