KUCHING: Torque of Borneo 2026 is set to attract around 50,000 visitors over its three-day event, featuring more than 500 cars and motorcycles on display.

Torque of Borneo 2026 programme director Shirajuddin Bolhi said the vehicles on display are entered by participants from both within and outside the country, taking part in the autoshow and automotive gathering.

“The participants include entries from Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia.

“Out of that number, more than 100 participants will compete in the autoshow covering both car and motorcycle categories, while the rest will join the automotive community gathering segment,” he said at a press conference held at Kuching Community Hall today (April 20).

He said the upcoming event, which will be held from May 1 to 3 at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) grounds from 9 am to 11 pm, is designed as a multi-sector platform bringing together automotive, creative, lifestyle, and digital communities.

“The event will feature a wide range of attractions, including an autoshow, car and motorcycle gatherings, a Mobile Legends e-sports competition, stage performances, singing contests, fashion shows, and colouring activities.

“Family-friendly segments such as a fun zone, community activities, lucky draws, and Rahmah sales will also be held alongside participation from local vendors,” he said.

He added that the programme is not merely an entertainment event, but aims to provide a platform for the automotive community and local talents to showcase their potential.

“It also seeks to empower entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), while elevating the creative and digital industries among youth, in turn driving tourism and the community economy in Sarawak,” he added.

Shirajuddin said the programme also serves as a platform to support vendors and industry players across automotive, financial, and entrepreneurial sectors.

“These include automotive brands such as Proton, Perodua, Kawasaki, Mitsubishi, Ford, and Jetour, as well as various motorcycle and car accessory shops.

“Financial institutions including Bank Rakyat, Affin Bank, and Public Gold will participate through exhibition booths and service showcases,” he added.

Looking ahead, he said organisers are planning to expand the programme to other parts of Sarawak, with Bintulu identified as a potential future location, although discussions are still at an early stage.

Meanwhile, the official opening is expected to take place on May 2 at 2 pm, and is expected to be officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Also present were MBKS deputy mayor Zaiedi Suhaili and President of the Sarawak Malay Community Development Organisation Ikeram Yan.
